Deborah Bridges is a professional sculptor with over 36 years of experience, exhibiting and selling her work at art festivals and galleries throughout her career. Her figurative work, primarily centered on the feminine form, uses the human body as a powerful and immediate vessel for connection—both deeply familiar and richly expressive.
For the past 14 years, she has also taught figurative ceramic sculpture while continuing to create work in stone, bronze, cement, and clay. She is represented by Bronze Coast Gallery in Cannon Beach, Oregon, and Epperson Gallery in Crockett, California.
“I make sculptures of mythic and archetypal female figures, using the body and symbolic imagery to explore qualities such as intuition, receptivity, stillness, groundedness, and the capacity to hold. I keep returning to the question of what becomes possible when these qualities are recognized as forms of strength, and when feminine and masculine energies are valued equally. I work slowly through each body of work, staying with a theme until I have followed it as far as I can, using myth and symbolism to give shape to what I am discovering in my own life. I want the work to leave you with a sense of possibility—a feeling that there is a more balanced and whole way of being human.
My sculptures draw on archetypal and mythological figures because these images already live deeply in our collective imagination. Myth endures because it expresses something fundamental about being human. “
